Plans for a recreational trail in Hartley include a crossing at an existing pedestrian crosswalk near Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School. The Hartley Recreational Trail Committee has been awarded a $20,000 grant by the Iowa Economic Development Authority. A Sioux Center firm was hired to provide electrical engineering services for updates to parking lots and ball diamonds at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School. Rates that the City of Royal will pay for solid waste collection and law enforcement coverage will increase next year. The city’s contract with Town & Country Disposal expires on Dec. 1. They are proposing a 3 percent increase each year for the next five years.
