Expanding the preschool program at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Community School from half days to a full day schedule will not happen next fall. Principal Ashley Benz told the school board last month that H-M-S was considering extending Little Hawks Preschool's schedule to four full days per week. One applicant was all that was needed to fill the position of Royal City Clerk. The city council on March 13 approved hiring Jill Hickey to take over the duties of city clerk on Aug. 1. She will be paid $20 per hour, with a work week of 12-14 hours. No health insurance benefits are being offered to Hickey, who will also clean the Community Building. Guests at the Hartley Community Daycare Center's annual fundraiser were treated to a surprise last Saturday. Preliminary drawings of the new daycare building were unveiled during the night's festivities. Extending a tax levy that generates nearly $400,000 is a priority for the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Community School.
