He succeeded Harry Stoterau who declined the position after ably serving for three years. • Dec. 30, 1948 Reburial services for Pvt. Edward R. Magee were conducted at the Legion Hall by Amvet Post No. 61. Pvt. Magee died in Germany on July 21, 1945, at the age of 24. He entered military service on Oct. 7, 1942, and was serving in a heavy truck company at the time of his death. To help manage costs for purchasing natural gas, the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Community School District is joining a statewide government risk pool program. The school board on Monday authorized the district to enter into an agreement with the Iowa Local Government Risk Pool. The purpose of the program is to "transfer risks of increases in natural gas costs due to weather-driven demand and other market forces away from the school district."
