While most Iowans were sleeping, the Legislature on Monday night and Tuesday morning passed sweeping changes to K-12 education funding that will allow taxpayer dollars to be used for tuition at private schools. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, who made the proposal a key campaign issue during her successful 2022 re-election bid, signed the legislation on Tuesday. With overwhelming GOP majorities in both the House and Senate, the Students First Act faced little chance of rejection. It passed 55-45 in the...

The sight of 1,500 rainbows dazzled visitors at Scharnberg Pond near Everly Saturday, but their gazes weren't fixed on the sky above. Curious anglers and other onlookers crowded the pond's south shoreline to watch a mobile tank filled with rainbow trout get released into the frosty waters below. The fish, which were trucked in from a Decorah hatchery, needed no coaxing after they were released from the tank via pipeline into a large hole cut into the surface. The stocking was organized by the...

Christmas break caused a bit of a hiccup in Clay Central/Everly's winter schedule. Unfortunately, that meant holding off on the annual holiday music program until classes resumed in January. The band also performed in front of a festive winterscape filled with snowmen and blue tinsel, which made a wonderful...

Harlan Goetsch was attending a school for farm equipment management, which was conducted by the International Harvester Co. exclusively for dealers and their p...
