Memorial Day services will return to form next Monday at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Last year's ceremony was held at the Hartley Community Center, where patrons were restricted to listening to the program on their car radios due to social distancing protocol. The final concert of 2020-21 was an appropriate send-off for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Middle School's longtime instrumental director. Only a handful of strokes prevented Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn from advancing to the second round of the Class 1A girls' regional tournament. Competing in the first-round meet on May 17 at Primghar, H-M-S finished with a team score of 462.
