  • Quilting for a cause

    Nick Pedley, News Editor|Jun 6, 2024

Connie Olhausen recalls the moment she decided to adopt a new way to quilt. "I had just finished a queen-sized one with 1,020 pieces that took 125 hours," she said. "That's when I decided this is kind of stupid. If we're going to do this, we're not going to make these kinds of quilts." An online search yielded more speedy methods of construction, and Olhausen never looked back. She made 75 quilts this year alone as part of a local charitable group at St. Paul's Lutheran Church that sends them...

    Mike Petersen, Sports Editor & Staff Writer|Jun 6, 2024

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's baseball team scored more runs in two of its games last week than it did during the previous five. But opposing teams also scored plenty of runs to keep H-M-S from getting a win. The Hawks fell short, 6-5, at South O'Brien on May 28. They scored three runs in the seventh inning to make it a one-run game and had the bases loaded, but the Wolverines got out of the jam to earn the win. They also scored a run in the first inning and again in the sixth. "Tensions and frustrations were high on the field that in the end affected our batting and fielding," Hawk coach Stephanie Bronstad...
