    Homecoming festivities at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn kick off next Monday and run through Friday, when the Hawks take on MMCRU at Peterson Field at 7 p.m. Coronation is slated for Tuesday, Sept. 13 in the H-M-S Event Center at 7 p.m. The pep rally is set to begin Friday, Sept. 16 at 12:45 p.m., with the parade to follow at 2:15 p.m. in downtown Hartley.     A rowdy night in Royal ended with a trip to jail for a local man who engaged in a six-hour standoff with law enforcement. According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 4 p.m. deputies were informed of a federal warrant for Timothy Steinbeck, 46, of Royal, for a narcotics violation.     Area residents are gearing up for another edition of the World's Greatest County Fair. The Clay County Fair returns with another packed lineup Sept. 10-18 in Spencer. The annual event drew 277,389 visitors last year, and fair manager Jeremy Parsons is hoping 2022's edition hits an even higher mark.     Iowans can request absentee ballots Iowans can now request absentee ballots for the November general election. State law allows Iowans to request absentee ballots beginning 70 days before an election. County auditors will begin mailing absentee ballots to those that requested them starting Oct. 19. From there he planned to go by train or bus to Montana to purchase Western sheep and lambs for feeding purposes. The sheep would be shipped to Hartley where Kruse had facilities to handle them.     A new cross country season began at a new venue, as the Emerald Hills Golf Course was the site for the Okoboji Invitational on Sept. 1.     After playing two close sets with Sibley-Ocheyedan, the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn volleyball team could not sustain that effort in the final two sets. The Hawks lost the match played Aug. 29 at Sibley by scores of 24-26, 27-25, 18-25 and 16-25.
