PTK advisors at NCC receive awards The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon was notified that two of its advisors were selected as 2023 Outstanding Advisors. Laura Nachtigal, NCC Executive Assistant and Board Secretary and a PTK advisor for 14 years was selected to receive Phi Theta Kappa’s 2023 Distinguished Advisor Award. Youngsters in Hartley turned out in force last Saturday for the I.E.F. Club's annual egg hunt on the grounds of Community Memorial Health Center. The event was well attended by children ages 0-10, who hunted down eggs in quick fashion. Strong winds didn't seem to affect their efforts. Local educators awarded grant for a community project The Clay Central/Everly Education Association was awarded a $500 Community Outreach Grant from the Iowa State Education Association (ISEA) for the CC/E MAV BackPack Program, which provides nutritious food for students and families in need. The choir was nationally known and lived up to every expectation. Claris Linder, of Hartley, was a member of the group. Funeral services were to be held for Pvt. O’Brien County Tourism wins state award O’Brien County Tourism was presented with an Iowa Tourism Award during the recent Iowa Tourism Conference at Altoona. The award was in the Outstanding Marketing Collaboration category (Rural) for Tour O’Brien County. A total of 25 awards were presented by the Iowa Tourism Office. An opportunity was brought to Clay Central/Everly's attention by state Rep. Megan Jones about the company Lettuce Grow giving away their Farmstands to K-12 schools. Jones partnered with CC/E's fifth grade teacher Joan Kimball and the Royal Lions Club to bring the Farmstand to the school via a special grant. Royal Community Action's annual Easter egg hunt found new egg-hiding grounds in the Clay Central/Everly school building on Saturday thanks to overnight snow accumulation. The Pork in the Pantry program assists local food pantries through the county Pork Producer organizations. O'Brien County Pork Producers teamed up with the Food Bank at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley and the O'Brien County Veterans Affairs Food Pantry.
