The Iowa State Pedal Pull Association held its 32nd annual state pedal pull championship on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the North Iowa Event Center in Mason City. There were girls and boys 4-12 years old that placed first, second or third in over 150 sanctioned pedal pulls across Iowa. • Sept. 18, 1947 Section 21 of every township in Iowa was being surveyed to determine the amount and quality of corn produced. Sections surveyed in O’Brien County showed the county in a very favorable position regarding yield. Some of those interviewed estimated their yields at 40 to 50 bushels per acre. Iowans can request absentee ballots Iowans can now request absentee ballots for the November general election. State law allows Iowans to request absentee ballots beginning 70 days before an election. County auditors will begin mailing absentee ballots to those that requested them starting Oct. 19. • Sept. 11, 1947 Otto Kruse, of Hartley, went by plane to Oakland, Calif. to enjoy a 10-day visit in the Alfred Kruse home. From there he planned to go by train or bus to Montana to purchase Western sheep and lambs for feeding purposes. The sheep would be shipped to Hartley where Kruse had facilities to handle them. Exhibitors shear to please judges at Iowa State Fair Alex Moser, of Larchwood, won first place in the Senior Division of the Sheep Shearing Contest judged on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the 2022 Iowa State Fair. The Everly Public Library was a bustling place in August as facility improvements got underway.
