Royal Community Action hosted its annual Festival of Trees last Saturday morning at The Great Hall of Royal. Last Saturday evening the Royal Lions Club hosted its annual Christmas party at The Great Hall of Royal. Donated deer hides benefit disabled veterans Hunters donated nearly 4,000 deer hides to Elks Lodges across Iowa last year, which was a slight decrease from the 2020-2021 season. The deer hides are used by the Veterans Leather Program to make professionally-crafted leather gloves for veterans in wheelchairs and also turned into leather used for therapy programs for recovering veterans. The H-M-S Giving Tree recently landed a sizeable contribution from Fiesta Foods. The local grocery store held a casual Friday fundraiser, where employees could pay a donation to wear jeans or other less formal attire. Store owner Casey Connor also pitched in some cash to get the donation to triple digits. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources recently released between 1,000-2,000 rainbow trout at Scharnberg Pond southeast of Everly. The stocking was part of its cool weather trout program that brings trout to areas that cannot support them during the summer. All fall community trout stockings are now complete.
