Ballot finalized for OC District 1 ballot Voters in O’Brien County won’t have much to choose from when they hit the polls Dec. 7 during the special supervisor election. Republican Tim Overmire, of rural Hartley, is the only name on the ballot. The deadline to file nomination papers was last Friday. The membership of the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn chapter of the National Honor Society grew significantly with the addition of 20 initiates. They were inducted in a ceremony on Nov. 1. Advisor Jim Thomas said that more than 35 students were eligible to be considered for induction. Criteria for membership include a minimum 3.5 grade point average after four semesters and effective demonstration of the four qualities that are important to NHS. • Nov. 14, 1946 An airplane from Eli, Minn. to Spencer became lost in a snowstorm and had to make a forced landing on the Fred Will farm near Hartley. Mr. Williams, the pilot and only occupant, was unhurt and the plane was not damaged. Work was for the most part completed on the Hartley skating rink at the north end of the municipal park. Veterans Day program in Hartley Elaine Leusink, of Sioux Center, will deliver the keynote address during the Veterans Day program on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m., inside the H-M-S Event Center in Hartley. The first trees of the Memory Tree Project sponsored by the Chapel Committee and the City of Hartley were planted this summer at Pleasant View Cemetery. The repertoire for the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn concert choir's fall performance featured selections from around the world and even one that had no words. Last Sunday the Clay Raiders 4-H Club held its annual fundraiser luncheon at the Royal Community Building. Those in attendance enjoyed club members serving them delicious pork burgers, cowboy-style baked beans, chips and desserts.
