    Dec 24, 2020

Approximately 60 homes in Everly were lit up to spread holiday cheer to neighbors and friends this month. • No need to hunt for Hope on Christmas

    Fr. Timothy Hogan|Dec 24, 2020

I love to hunt. I love hunting pheasants, turkeys, geese, ducks and deer. I enjoy the hunt for the challenge and the adventure while experiencing God's gift of Creation. However, in my hunts I am not desperate to bring home game. This year I sense people hunting, often in desperation, to have something on which they can rely. The year of COVID-19 has been an unexpected surprise that has thrown life into disarray. People seem to be hunting for Hope. Some people hunted for Hope in the election or...

  • The Christ of Christmas

    Pastor Richard Milbrandt|Dec 24, 2020

America has changed over the years in the celebration of Christmas. More Americans probably know the story of Santa Claus than know why Christians celebrate Christmas. Gifts, evergreen trees and outdoor lights seem to be more important than the true meaning behind Christmas. Very rarely will any county courthouse in America dare to put up a nativity scene featuring Mary, Joseph and the infant Jesus. Many county governments fear being sued for putting up a nativity scene. The state capitol...

    Dec 24, 2020

Iowa Great Lake water temperatures are around 35 degrees or lower with many areas starting to ice over. East Okoboji Lake: The walleye season is open. The water temperature was 37 degrees last week. All hoists and docks have been pulled out for the season. Bluegill, fair. Yellow perch, fair. • Curbside Santa in Royal

    Iesha Toft, S-N Contributor|Dec 17, 2020

A lot of things are going to the way of curbside pickup nowadays. Apparently, a Santa and Mrs. Claus meet and greet is following suit in keeping a safe social distance while still spreading holiday cheer. A masked Mrs. Claus and Santa greeted each parked vehicle in Royal last Saturday with the same joy and holiday cheer as usual, this year from outside participants' car doors. The Kringle couple gave each child a gift and treat, wishing them a very Merry Christmas and photo-op before heading to...

Every year the Clay Central/Everly second graders have the honor of partaking in an offsite, festive-as-can-be Christmas Tea. The outing is usually hosted at former CC/E teacher Lynn Cronk's home and is a delightful day filled with numerous holiday traditions like tea time, Christmas caroling and making gingerbread houses This year Mrs. Larson helped transform the event into a pandemic-friendly, in-class day of fun.
