Debra Henderson, of rural Hartley, took over organizing efforts this month from founder Jenna Hemiller.     • Charges pending following crash The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that Jose Ramon-Arrendondo, 25, of Sioux Rapids, lost control of his vehicle in the 4900 mile of 220th Avenue at 8:45 p.m. on Nov. 16. The vehicle went into the ditch and started on fire. Ramon-Arrendondo was taken by private vehicle to Spencer Hospital for treatment of burns to his hands.     Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn students will soon find that the idiom "there is no such thing as a free lunch" may not always be true. As a result of action by the school board on Monday, the cost of student lunches during December and January will be assumed by the Nutrition Fund. The decision comes as a result of continued growth in the fund balance and a grant of $18,568 that was received. The fund balance on Oct. 31 was $664,758, which compares to $249,000 in 2021.     Iowa State University Extension and Outreach field agronomists have completed their fall survey of subsoil moisture in northwest Iowa. Eighteen locations were sampled, according to Agronomists Gentry Sorenson and Leah Ten Napel. "The sites were selected for being typical for the major soil type," Ten Napel said in a news release.
