O’Brien County Relay For Life set for Aug. 3

The annual O’Brien County Relay For Life will be held Monday, Aug. 3 in Sheldon.

Due to COVID-19 regulations and social distancing, the event will be revised this year. More details will follow as the event plans are completed.

All residents of O’Brien County and the area are invited to help lift the spirits of many local people who are fighting cancer.

CMHC meeting canceled

Community Memorial Health Center’s annual board meeting has been canceled. The event was originally postponed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sentinel-News office closed Friday for Fourth of July

The Hartley Sentinel-Everly/Royal News office in Hartley will be closed on Friday, July 3 to observe the Fourth of July holiday.

Please submit all ad copy for the Northwest Iowa Peach by Thursday, July 2 at 5 p.m. Ad copy and submitted news deadlines for next week’s newspaper will remain the same – Monday, at 5 p.m.

Writing prompt for HPL summer program

The writing prompt for the third week of the Hartley Public Library’s summer library program is “My life in Hartley” (or any town you choose).

Submit 1-2 pages to the library by Thursday, July 9 with your name and a phone number or email address, and whether you give permission for others to see your work with or without your name on Facebook, the library’s website or displayed in the library.

Feel nature items during self-guided tour

Get a “feel” for natural items by participating in the next event in the O’Brien County Conservation Board’s guided/self-guided nature series.

“Rubbings” will be held at Dog Creek Park on Tuesday, July 7. Meet in the south parking lot any time from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Note that this is a date change from the conservation board newsletter publication.

The naturalist will welcome you and your group to give you an introduction and instructions. Your group must not include more than 10 participants. Take-home materials will be provided and stations will be marked along the trail for your enjoyment. If at any point your group encounters another along the trail, please announce your presence and allow a safe passing distance.
