Kathryn L. Haht, 91, Hartley

Services for Kathryn L. Haht will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Sutherland. Hartley Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

Kathryn Lorene Haht was born on Nov. 14, 1928 in rural Sutherland, the daughter of Mathias and Inez (Cooper) Noethe. She spent her youth in the Sutherland area and attended school there, graduating from Sutherland High School.

On June 4, 1947, Kathryn was united in marriage to Henry “Hank” Haht at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland. The couple made Sutherland their home and became parents to seven children. With a big family comes a bigger garden, and Kathryn was up to the challenge. Even after the kids left home, she always had produce to share with her family. She also spent many hours at the sewing machine, if not mending clothes then creating her “famous” potholders.

She thoroughly enjoyed being involved in her children’s school activities over the years, from Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts to attending many school sporting events. Fishing and camping as a family were also something they all looked forward to. Lots of good memories were made around a camp fire! Caring for her family and time spent with them meant the world to Kathryn. Even though each day held its own list of duties and obligations to be dealt with, she somehow managed to work part-time at Millie’s Rest Home in Sutherland and also enjoyed being a Sarah Coventry costume jewelry dealer for many years. Relaxation meant catching up with her friends over a good game of cards and a cup of coffee.

Kathryn was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland where she was active in the Ladies’ Guild. She was also a member of the local American Legion Auxiliary.

She passed from this life at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, at the age of 91 years.

Keeping her memory close at heart are her husband of 73 years, Henry Haht, of Hartley; children: Linda Tewes, of Hartley; Wayne (Sandy) Haht, of Spirit Lake; Jim (Alice) Haht and Susan Hinspeter, both of Sutherland; and Chris Haht, of Storm Lake; daughter-in-law, Micki Haht, and son-in-law, Tyler Sechler, both of Calumet; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Inez Noethe; sister, Margaret Kastengren; daughter, Diane Sechler; son, Bruce Haht; two sons-in-law: Eldon Tewes and Denny Hinspeter; and a grandson, Adam Haht.
