Water fight!

Hartley residents of all ages turned out for a night of cool, wet fun last Thursday when the fire department hosted water fights on Central Avenue. Firefighters from Archer and Melvin also participated.

This was the second-straight month Hartley firemen held the water fights.

"We thought it would be good to just get people out and have a little fun," said Chief Brad Meendering. "Last month we were doing our pumper training, so instead of just sending it down the drain, we thought it would be fun to have the water fights."

The Hartley Lions Club grilled hotdogs and served refreshments. More than $1,000 in free will donations was collected, which will benefit the city's new swimming pool fund.
