Event to kick off pool fundraising

The Hartley Pool Taskforce Committee will host its fall kickoff fundraiser Oct. 11 from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Hartley Community Center. Sack lunches with pulled pork sandwiches, chips, cookie and bottled water will be available for a free will donation. Curbside pick up is available along with limited dine-in seating that adhere to social distancing guidelines. Funds will go towards a new city pool.

Solsma’s Punkin Patch now open

Solsma’s Punkin Patch is open for the fall season. Visitors will find fall produce, a food truck, corn maze, country store and more.

The business is located four miles east of Sanborn on Highway 18. Visit their website for hours.

Ernst regional directors to hold traveling office hours

Regional Directors for U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, will hold traveling office hours soon to assist Iowans in their dealings with federal agencies.

Help is available for a range of casework issues including COVID-19 assistance, derecho recovery, Social Security, Medicare benefits, veterans’ benefits, military affairs, passports, immigration issues and other federal programs. Please note that Sen. Ernst will not be at the traveling office hours.

In accordance with Centers for Disease Control guidelines, visitors are advised to socially distance and wear face coverings when meeting with staff during office hours.

Those who are seeking help with a federal agency but are unable to attend the traveling office hours can contact one of the Senator’s offices directly or submit a casework request online.

Traveling office hours will be held at the following locations.

• Clay County: Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1-2 p.m., at Grand Avenue Community Outreach, 605 Grand Ave., Spencer.

• O’Brien County: Tuesday, Oct. 6, 3-4 p.m. at Crossroads Pavilion-Sherwood Boardroom, 301 34th Ave., Sheldon.

Food pantry hours at Hope Lutheran

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Mondays, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Please knock on the church door and food will be brought out to you.

Blood drive scheduled for Oct. 5 at Spencer

LifeServe Blood Center is asking community members to book an appointment to give blood during a drive in Spencer on Monday, Oct. 5. Donors can give blood from 12:30-6 p.m. at Southpark Mall, 901 11th Street SW.

Appointments are required. Donors should pre-screen themselves for fever prior to appointments. Only donors with temperatures under 99.5 will be allowed to donate. Masks must be worn for the duration of the appointment. Anyone not having a face covering will be provided with one.

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:
