Mrs. Hugh (Marlys) Johnson rolled a sanctioned league game of 277 at E and E Lanes. She opened the game with a spare and then threw nine strikes in a row. She finished the game with a split which she failed to convert. It was the highest ladies league sanctioned game rolled at the bowling alley up to that time.

The Tritonia Club, IFWC, sponsored a very successful style show. More than 300 women watched as approximately 25 models displayed fashions from stores in Cherokee and Sioux City. Proceeds were used to purchase playground equipment for the Ten Acre Park.

A number of acts of vandalism were committed at the Hartley schools. Approximately 400 windows were soaped at the two buildings, some with obscene language. Garbage cans and street barriers were placed in the open area in the center of the high school. Access was apparently gained by climbing a light pole and sliding across on high-tension wires.
