St. Paul’s hosting meal Saturday

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley will host a to-go meal on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Pork sandwiches, baked beans, chips, brownies and water are on the menu.

Drive-thru pick up will be on the north side of the church. Cost is a free will donation.

Blood drive Oct. 21 in Hartley

The next blood drive in Hartley is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 12:30-5:30 p.m. at the Hartley Community Center, 820 2nd Street NE.

Appointments are required. To set up your donation appointment, text LIFESERVE to 999-777, call (800) 287-4903 or visit lifeservebloodcenter.org.

Only blood donors will be allowed inside the building due to COVID-19.

Food bank Oct. 21 at Trinity UCC

The Food Bank of Iowa’s mobile pantry program will be conducted on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 4-6 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. The program is available free of charge and geared toward individuals who are in need of food assistance.

Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles and line up on the east side of the parking lot. The food will be brought to you as you drive under the canopy.

Between the Covers to discuss ‘The Only Woman in the Room’

Members of Between the Covers Book Club will be discussing a powerful novel by author Marie Benedict when they meet in the front room of Hartley Public Library on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 5 p.m.

Hedy Kiesler began life in Vienna, Austria. Marriage to an Austrian arms dealer enabled her access to secrets of the Third Reich. Landing in America her intelligence of the scientific enabled a groundbreaking invention which revolutionized modern communication and helped her country fight the Nazis.

Everyone is invited to join in a discussion based on the incredible true story of Hedy Lamarr, American screen star, when the group meets this month at the library.

Blood drive is Oct. 26 at Spencer

LifeServe Blood Center is asking community members to book an appointment to give blood at the drive scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26, from 12:30 p.m.-6 p.m. at Southpark Mall, 901 11th Street SW, Spencer.

Appointments are required. No one who does not have an appointment will be able to give blood. Donors should pre-screen themselves for fever prior to appointments. Only those with temperatures under 99.5 will be allowed to donate. Masks are to be to worn for the duration of the appointment. Donors who do not have masks will be provided with one.
