Veterans Day ceremony, breakfast canceled

American Legion Arthur W. Kirchhoff Post 288 will not be holding any Veterans Day programs in Hartley this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The annual free veterans breakfast hosted by the Hartley American Legion Auxiliary has also been canceled this year.

Everly firefighters holding pancake breakfast on Sunday

The Everly Firefighter’s Association will host its annual breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The meal will be served drive-thru style only at the Everly Fire Station. Please approach from the east.

The Hartley Country Crafters are holding their 36th Annual Craft Show on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Hartley Community Center. A variety of items will be for sale.

Nuts sale to be conducted via phone

Indoor marching band concert Nov. 9

The fall indoor marching band concert will be held Monday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Event Center at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School. The event was originally scheduled for Nov. 2.

Women in Ag Leadership conference goes virtual

The fourth annual Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Women in Ag Leadership Conference is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 30, from 1-3:30 p.m., and Tuesday, Dec. 1, from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The conference will be a virtual event.

This year’s theme is “Leadership in Unprecedented Times.” Speakers include Eileen Wixted, of Wixted & Co., a veteran of crisis communication; keynote speaker Miriam Erickson Brown, president and CEO of Anderson Erickson Dairy; Kayla Lyon, director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, who will discuss the challenges of leadership following the derecho; and Philomena Morrissey Satre, director of Diversity + Inclusion at Land O’ Lakes Inc., who will offer insights into supporting a diverse workplace.

In addition, a panel of two former Women in Ag Leadership advisory committee members, Zoami Calles-Rios Sosa and Jittaun Floyd, will share insights on working in agriculture as minorities; and Extension farm and agribusiness management specialist Melissa O’Rourke will help put 2020 in perspective and poise the audience to move into 2021 with grace and optimism.

The program will also honor Iowa’s Women Impacting Agriculture during the conference. This honor highlights and celebrates women’s unique contributions to a safe and plentiful food supply while enhancing Iowa’s agricultural systems.

The virtual conference will offer networking opportunities. When registering for the conference, participants can choose to post their name, email and bio or message to the password protected website.

Food pantry hours at Hope Lutheran

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Mondays, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Please knock on the church door and food will be brought out to you.

ILCC stuffed animal drive ends tomorrow

The Iowa Lakes Community College Student Senate on the Estherville campus will be accepting stuffed animal donations through Nov. 6. The stuffed animals collected will be donated to local hospitals and first responders for children to help them deal with tragedy, loss or illness.

Donators may place new, unused stuffed animals in the drop off box located outside Door 1 of the Estherville campus. A phone number will be listed for donors to call on the door, allowing someone to collect the donation right away.
