• Ends up in ditch trying to avoid animal
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office investigated an accident that occurred on 320th Street on Oct. 21 at 11:13 p.m.
The report stated that Moises Enrique Mendoza, 19, of Hartley, claimed that an animal was in the roadway as he was driving eastbound on Highway 18. The 2012 Toyota Camry entered the south ditch and came to rest against a utility pole.
Mendoza suffered a reported unknown medical event and was transported by the Sheldon Ambulance to Sanford Sheldon Hospital. Minimal damage was reported to the Camry and to the pole owned by Mid-America Energy.
• No injuries in accident
There were no injuries to occupants of a vehicle involved in an accident on Oct. 27 at 3:07 p.m.
According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Barbara Ann Berensmann, 41, of Sutherland, was driving eastbound on 440th Street from Redwing Avenue when she tried to put the vehicle into four-wheel drive. During the process she lost control of the 2002 Jeep Liberty which entered the south ditch and turned over on the driver’s side.
No injuries were reported to Berensmann or the unidentified occupant of the vehicle, both of whom were wearing seatbelts. Damage to the vehicle was listed at $1,500. Berensmann was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.
• Loses control of vehicle
A single-vehicle accident occurred on Oct. 28 at 8:50 a.m., on L26/McKinley Avenue. The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that Jessica Sheyenne Beldt, 17, of Sheldon, was southbound on McKinley Avenue from 280th Street when she reached in the backseat for something that fell. As the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee drifted to the right shoulder, Beldt saw a deer. She overcorrected and the vehicle began to fishtail. It then regained traction and rolled onto the driver’s side.
Beldt was not injured. Damage to the Jeep was estimated at $2,000.
