Private family services for Jason B. Englert were held Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer, with Pastor Mark Wilms officiating. Interment was in North Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery at Spencer. Warner Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
Jason Bernard Englert was born Aug. 24, 1982 in Spencer. His childhood years were spent in Royal and he graduated from Clay Central/Everly Community School in 2001. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal.
Jason was very active in school. He participated in football, basketball, track and school plays – pretty much everything that was offered. He was also prom king. He just loved being involved in activities and with people.
Jason worked multiple jobs to put himself through college. He worked for around 20 years at JCPenney in Spencer and made many friends at work. Even with his teaching career, he always maintained a job at Penney’s at least once a month and during holidays. He also worked for Monsanto in charge of a detasseling crew during the summers.
Jason’s goal was to become a math teacher. He started his college education for one year at Iowa Lakes Community College and continued at the University of Northern Iowa. While attending UNI, he was an R.A. (resident advisor) for one of the dorms. After graduation Jason interned at Spencer High School. He took a job at the Guthrie Center Community School and then as a high school math teacher at Twin River Valley High School. From there, Jason was the secondary math teacher at East Union Community School. He changed jobs at East Union, becoming their high school math teacher. After East Union, he was the secondary math teacher at Manson Northwest Webster Community School. Jason started a new job this year as a K-12 TAG teacher for Belmond-Klemme Community School.
Jason was deeply committed to his students and his colleagues. Although, most people knew Jason had a little trouble being on time to work! He had about five alarm clocks and he still could be late to school. However, he rarely missed a school event and was always cheering on the kids.
Jason was a wonderful friend to all he met and he was your friend for life. Jason was liked and loved by everyone. He touched, inspired and improved many lives in his short time here on earth. He had a wonderful sense of humor and his laugh was infectious and memorable.
Jason’s absence will be deeply felt by many. Jason loved to spend time with family and friends, whether it was a school event, just plain get-togethers, going out with his brothers or going to movies with his dad.
Jason passed away on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020, at his home in Belmond, at the age of 38. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Don and Dolores Johnson and Bernard and Darlene Englert.
Left to cherish his memory are his father, John Englert, of Royal; his mother, Connie Johnson Englert, of Denver, Colo.; two brothers: Matthew (friend Bethany Vargas) Englert, of Spirit Lake; and Lance Englert, of Grand Island, Neb.; nephew: Kinnick (Matthew) Englert; uncles and aunts: Jerri (Jim) Englert Haraldson, of Rembrandt; Jolene (Scott) Englert VonEnde, of Peoria, Ariz.; Don, Jr. (Teresa) Johnson and Doug (Barb) Johnson, of Spirit Lake; cousins: Michael Haraldson, Jennifer Haraldson, Travis VonEnde, Tyler VonEnde, April (Jake) Johnson Bosma, Katie Johnson and Paul Johnson; many other relatives and friends.
