3 Christmas poems by Dave Hoye

A Christmas Gift

Jesus Christ came to earth

That wonderful Christmas Day.

Nothing’s been the same since His birth.

He has guided us to see the way.

Jesus has helped us to believe

In the God who loves us so.

And though in time he had to leave,

His life and love we’ll always know.

Jesus gave us another way

To accept God as our own.

Even to this very day

His love for us is shown.

All we ever have to do

To have life forever more,

Is to have faith that is true

That faith will have you at Heaven’s door.

Christmas Comes Once a Year

Christmas comes but once a year

Bringing memories of the past,

Warm and tender times are near;

At least, for the moment, they will last.

It’s time to remember You my Lord

And all that you have done for me.

A time that family cannot be ignored

As we gather together under the tree.

Yet, it lasts for one short day;

But every year it lets us know

That everything which we pray

Is ours wherever we may go.

Born on Christmas Day

Jesus was born on Christmas day

In a manger so long ago.

Yet, in that stable filled with hay,

God’s only son began to grow.

His stay on earth was ever so brief,

But what He did will always be.

Though He suffered much pain and grief,

He died for our sins and made us free.

So, even now as we live today,

We can remember what He has done

Giving us the chance to live in His grace

Because of the victory He has won.
