2 from H-M-S named to All-Iowa team

Two members of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Dance Attack were recently named to the All-Iowa Honor Dance Team.

Senior Cher Hibbing and junior Anna VanderVeen earned the prestigious honor. Due to COVID-19 protocol, VanderVeen will unfortunately be unable to participate in the event. She was also named to the team last year.

The All-Iowa Honor Dance team typically performs during the girls' state basketball tournament after only a few hours of practice together. The nationally-recognized show will look a little different this year, however, as dancers will come together Feb. 22 to learn the entire routine and then pre-record the performance for television broadcast.

All dance teams represented are members of the Iowa State Dance Team Association, and the dancers were chosen based on ability, attitude, dedication and leadership qualities. Five hundred twenty dancers auditioned virtually last fall.

The performance by the All-Iowa Honor Dance Team will take place during the 4A championship game on Saturday, March 6. The halftime group includes 238 dancers representing 90 Iowa high schools. The performance will be aired on Iowa PBS at approximately 2 p.m.
