• Pursuit reaches 90 mph in O’Brien, Clay counties
At approximately 9:41 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, an O’Brien County deputy sheriff attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2011 Honda CRV near the intersection of 360th Street and White Avenue. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued which traveled through O’Brien and Clay counties and reached speeds as high as 91 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle crashed in the 3700 mile of 110th Street. Madison Selzer, 33, and Joseph Peterson, 29, both of Spencer, were arrested. The vehicle in which they were traveling was reported stolen in California. The license plate on the rear of the vehicle was also stolen in California off a different vehicle. A search warrant was obtained and controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were found in the vehicle.
Selzer was identified as the driver and was charged with the following: Theft 2nd Degree, Possession of a Controlled Substance-Meth 3rd Offense and Eluding-Speed Over 25 Over the Limit, 2nd Offense, all class D felonies; Possession of Marijuana 3rd Offense and Driving While Barred, both aggravated misdemeanors; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Speeding 91 mph in a 55 mph zone, Fail to Yield Half the Roadway and Driving While Suspended, all simple misdemeanors.
Peterson, who was the passenger in the vehicle, was arrested on an out-of-county warrant and after completion of a search warrant, he was charged with the following: Possession of Controlled Substance-Meth 3rd Offense and Possession of Controlled Substance-Marijuana 3rd Offense, both class D felonies; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
Assisting the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office were the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and the Hartley Police Department.
