State contest slated for March 13
Seven Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn students virtually competed in the Individual District Speech Contest on Saturday, Feb. 27. All of their performances received I ratings, earning them the opportunity to compete in the State Individual Speech Contest.
Three seniors participated in three different categories. Emily Sindt and Desyre Martinez competed for the second year in a row, with Sindt receiveing her I rating in Radio News Announcing and Martinez earning a I in Improvisational Acting. Chayton Faulkner, competing for his first time, received his I in the Acting category.
Juniors Anissa Bush, Jaela Anliker and Juliana Pasillas returned for a second year of speech competition. Bush shared her talents in the interpretive reading categories of Poetry and Prose. Anliker performed an acting piece, and Pasillas presented an original oratory that she wrote.
One freshman, Annika Overmire, joined the experienced team and competed in Radio News Announcing.
These students will now refine their performances for the state competition on March 13.
