Letters: Stimulus package deserves deeper look

To the editor:

The “American Rescue Plan is not a Blue State Bailout” letter published in last week’s newspaper deserves greater scrutiny.

Nine percent of the $1.9 trillion so-called Covid Stimulus Bill was dedicated to Covid-related relief projects. Ninety-one percent of the funds went to the following: Migrant and Refugee Assistance, student loan bailout, NASA, USPS, Endowment for the Arts, vets employment training, mental health support, Dept. of Education, Safe Schools Emergency Response to Violence Program, public broadcasting, museums and libraries, Social Security Administration – 3/4 of which is for administrative costs, cleaning costs for Capitol Building, Smithsonian salaries, JFK Center for Performing Arts, additional salary for House of Representatives, upgrade IT Dept. of VA, State Department Diplomatic Program, Agency of International Development, International Development Assistance, International Disaster Assistance, Peace Corps, Howard University, misc. Senate expense, $100 million to keep airlines afloat, Take Responsibiliy to Workers, Families Act (likely direct payments to workers), Airlines Recycle and Save Program, FAA administrative costs, Amtrak, transit infrastructure, Maritime Administration salaries and office, expenses of the Inspector General, Community Planning and Development Office of Housing.

Or, each American could have received $6,051.74 – A REAL STIMULUS TO THE ECONOMY.
