David Fredric Schroeder was born on July 8, 1947 to Fred and Cleo (Collmann) Schroeder in Hartley, at the Hand Hospital.
He grew up on the family farm near Hartley, attending country school through elementary grades and graduating from Hartley High School in 1965. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley.
David attended college, served in the Army National Guard and was then activated stateside during the Vietnam Conflict. After serving in the Army he moved to Denver, Colo. where he worked at Coors Brewery while getting a B.S. degree in business from Metropolitan State College in Denver.
On August 24, 1973, David married Becky Bartsch, of Good Thunder, Minn. At this time David and Becky moved to the Hartley area and eventually back to the family farm he loved, to pursue farming. It is here that they were proud to raise their three children.
David was an avid golfer and supporter of Meadowbrook Golf Course where he had served on the board. He was also a dedicated Legion member, serving as commander of Post 288 in Hartley for several years. He volunteered as a driver for the D.A.V. Program for several years until 2018.
Although David did not hunt he had a passion for pheasants, doing what he could on the farm to preserve their natural habitat and organize hunting expeditions for visiting hunters.
David was actively farming but looked forward to winters in Texas, Florida and Arkansas to spend time with family. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who will be forever missed. He passed away on March 11 , 2021 at the Bay Pines V.A. Medical facility in St. Petersburg, Fla. after a sudden and brief health struggle.
A private family service was held on March 13 in Philippe Park on Tampa Bay to praise God and honor his memory.
