Hartley clean up day is Monday

Spring clean up day in Hartley will be held on Monday, April 26. Regular weekly collection will occur at the same time as any additional refuse.

The City of Hartley will pick up the equivalent of a 2-yard dumpster free of charge per residence. See the ad on Page 4 for a complete list of rules.

H-M-S prom Grand March is Saturday

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School will hold its prom on Saturday, April 24. Grand March will take place at 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited to attend. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there is a $3 admission fee.

Hydrant flushing ongoing in Hartley

The City of Hartley is flushing hydrants through Friday, April 23.

Customers may experience periods of low water pressure and/or water discoloration. See the ad on Page 3 for complete details.

Blood drive April 23 at Southpark Mall in Spencer

LifeServe Blood Center is conducting a blood drive at Southpark Mall, 901 11th Street SW in Spencer, on Friday, April 23, from 12:30 p.m.-6 p.m.

Appointments are required. Donors who do not have an appointment will not be able to give blood. Donors should pre-screen themselves for fever prior to appointments and must wear a mask for the duration of their appointment. Those who do not have masks will be provided with one.

St. Paul’s observing National Day of Prayer next month

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley is inviting all area churches to celebrate National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 6 from 7-7:30 p.m.

This year’s theme is, “Lord, Pour Your Love, Life and Liberty.” The service will include prayer, song and praise. Refreshements will follow, and social distancing and masks will be observed.

Happenings at Hartley library

Between the Covers book club will meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, in the front room of the library to discuss J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit.” Those attending are asked to wear masks.

After school program May 10 at HPL

Hartley Public Library will be holding an after school program for children in elementary grades TK-4, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 10 at the library.

Please pre-register for this program by Sunday, May 9. Space is limited so stop by the library during regular hours or email [email protected] to register.

Children are required to wear a mask. They will be bussed from the school to the library. Please alert the library to any allergies your child has, as well as who will be picking your child up after school.

Food pantry hours at Hope Lutheran

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Mondays, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Please knock on the church door and food will be brought out to you.

Al Anon meetings in Royal, Spencer, Sheldon

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.
