H-M-S teams begin busy postseason stretch

Hawks to host boys’ golf sectional May 14

Track and field athletes and golfers from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn are entering a busy stretch of postseason competition.

The track teams will compete in the Class 1A coed state qualifying meet at Lawton on Thursday, May 13. Field events begin at 4 p.m., followed by running events at 4:30.

Athletes from 14 schools will be competing. The top place winner in each event plus the next 14 best performances statewide from qualifying meet place winners will advance to the state track and field meet, May 20-22, in Des Moines.

Spectators wishing to attend the state qualifying meet must pre-purchase tickets online as none will be available at the gate. They may be obtained through the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Tickets page.

H-M-S is the host school for a Class 1A boys’ sectional golf meet on Friday, May 14. Golfers from George-Little Rock, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, Harris-Lake Park, H-M-S, South O’Brien, Trinity Christian and West Bend-Mallard will tee off at 10 a.m. at Sanborn Golf and Country Club.

Teams and individuals advancing from the Sanborn, Newell, Coon Rapids and Algona sectionals play their district meet at Lakeside Golf Course near Fort Dodge on May 21.

Primghar Golf & Country Club is the site for a Class 1A girls’ first-round regional golf meet on Monday, May 17. Play begins at 9:30 a.m. Teams in Region 1A are Central Lyon, George-Little Rock, GT/RA, Harris-Lake Park, H-M-S, MMCRU, South O’Brien and West Bend-Mallard.

Qualifying individuals and teams advance to the regional final on Monday, May 24, at the Holstein Country Club.
