Wrap up dual season with 1-8 record
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn finished ninth at the War Eagle Conference girls’ golf tournament which was held on May 11 at Sioux Center.
Unity Christian won the title with a team score of 395. Gehlen Catholic was the runner-up with a final total of 414, followed by Akron-Westfield 420, Remsen St. Mary’s 422, South O’Brien 427, Hinton 453, MMCRU 464, Harris-Lake Park 481, H-M-S 484 and West Sioux 512. Trinity Christian did not compete.
Elle Mastbergen was the highest finisher for H-M-S, finishing the 18-hole event with a score of 113 (55-58). She placed 26th among the 55 competitors.
Other scores and overall finishes were Darby Mastbergen, 117 (57-60), 30th; Megan Ten Kley, 127 (58-69), 40th; Kinsey Schirmer, 127 (59-68), 41st; Elise Haack, 128 (60-68), 42nd; and Emily Sindt, 133 (69-64) 46th.
Kerri Kroeze, of Unity Christian, was the top individual with an 18-hole total of 82.

To make up a meet that could not be played earlier in the season, H-M-S and Akron-Westfield matched scores for the first nine holes of the WEC tournament. The Westerners’ recorded a team total of 204 while the Hawks’ score was 229.
Elle Mastbergen’s 55 was the best 9-hole score for H-M-S. She finished fourth among the meet medalists. Other scores for H-M-S were Darby Mastbergen 57, Ten Kley 58, Schirmer 59, Haack 60 and Sindt 69.
A-W’s Natalie Nielsen topped the medalist list with a 44.
The Hawks finished the girls’ conference dual season tied for ninth with Harris-Lake Park with a 1-8 record.
Results of the girls’ regional meet played Monday at Primghar will be reported next week.
