• Sentenced to 136 months in federal prison
An Everly man who was accused of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine was sentenced on May 26 in federal court in Sioux City.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Jimmy Crouch, 48, of Everly, pled guilty on Dec. 7, 2020, to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine within a protected location, and one count of distribution of methamphetamine within a protected location.
At the plea and sentencing hearings, evidence showed that Crouch and others conspired to distribute over seven pounds of methamphetamine mixture from January 2019 through April 2020 in Wright and Webster counties. Information released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that law enforcement seized nearly four ounces of methamphetamine from Crouch in March/April of 2020.
On a number of occasions, Crouch and his co-conspirators were observed on home security recordings receiving and distributing ounces to quarter pounds of methamphetamine to other co-conspirators. Crouch’s final offense conduct included methamphetamine distribution in Eagle Grove within 1,000 feet of two separate protected locations, specifically parks with playgrounds.
After sentencing before United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand, Crouch remained in the custody of the United States Marshal until he could be transported to a federal prison. In addition to a sentence of 136 months in prison, Crouch must serve an eight-year term of supervised release following imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated by Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle Grove Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s Laboratory.
• Cash, other items stolen from Primghar business
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary that occurred at Baxterz Bar & Grill, in downtown Primghar, during the early-morning hours of May 25.
Authorities state that when the owner entered the bar, she noticed things were out of place. An investigation indicated that $35 was missing from the cash register, a $2 bill that had been on display was gone, as were a laptop computer, a bottle of liquor and a quantity of beer. Entry is believed to have occurred through an unlocked back door.
