• Semi-tractor destroyed near Sanborn
The Sanborn Fire Department was paged for a semi-tractor fire near the corner of Roseland Cemetery, west of Sanborn, at 2:15 p.m. June 28. When firefighters arrived they found a 2002 Freightliner tractor fully engulfed in flames.
According to the report, firefighters prevented the tractor’s fuel tanks from burning and also kept the grain trailer which it was pulling from being damaged. The driver did not notice any problems until smoke began to come out of the dashboard. A trail of diesel fuel on the roadway indicated there may have been a leak in the engine compartment which led to the fire.
No one was injured. The Freightliner was destroyed in the blaze, but the grain trailer was able to go on to Valero Renewable Fuels near Hartley following the incident.
