• Arrested near Sheldon on drug charges
An O’Brien County deputy stopped a 2008 Dodge Avenger near the intersection of 350th Street and McKinley Avenue, two miles south of Sheldon, on July 9 at 3:15 p.m. The vehicle was reported stolen to the Sheldon Police Department that day at 1:16 p.m.
According to Sheriff Bruce Deveraux, the deputy arrested Dakota Strubbe, 21, of Archer, who also had an outstanding Lyon County arrest warrant for failing to appear for probation revocation on an original charge of possession of a controlled substance. Strubbe was taken into custody without incident.
When officers and K9 Balin from the Sheldon Police Department arrived at the scene, K9 Balin indicated on the vehicle and a subsequent search was conducted. Several pieces of drug paraphernalia with meth and marijuana residue were located in the vehicle.
The deputy began standardized field sobriety testing. Strubbe failed preliminary testing and a certified drug recognition expert was called to evaluate her. As a result of the evaluation it was alleged that Strubbe was under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant.
Strubbe was charged by the sheriff’s office with Operating While Intoxicated-Drugged 1st Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Marijuana 2nd Offense, serious misdemeanors; and Possession of Methamphetamine 2nd Offense, an aggravated misdemeanor. The Sheldon Police Department charged Strubbe with Operating Vehicle without Owner’s Consent, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Also assisting the sheriff’s office was the Rock Valley Police Department Drug Recognition Expert and the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force.
• Collides with flatbed trailer
One person was injured during a collision at the intersection of M27 and 270th Street on July 6 at 1:30 p.m.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that Dakota Nelson, 29, of Kingsley, was northbound on M27 when a 2014 Freightliner driven by Booker Bell, 43, of Sioux Falls, S.D., which was eastbound on 270th Street, pulled out from a stop sign. Nelson was unable to stop his 2007 Harley Davidson, which ran into the flatbed trailer.
Nelson sustained head injuries and was transported to the Spencer Hospital.
Damage estimates were $5,000 for the Harley Davidson owned by Bradley Nelson and $100 for the semi tractor-trailer owned by Barnhart Crane and Rigging. Bell was cited for Failure to Yield from a Stop Sign.
