O'Brien County Fair kicks off July 24

The 2021 O'Brien County Fair is just around the corner. It kicks off on Saturday, July 24 with a tractor ride at 9 a.m. The ride will begin from the fairgrounds in Primghar, with dinner being served on the route.

Open crafts will be judged on Saturday, and you can begin to bring those items to the fairgrounds at 7:30 a.m. Anyone from O'Brien County is encouraged to exhibit and the entry fee is only $1 per exhibitor.

The special class in photography this year is "Barns." This must be an 8x10-inch photo with no matting or frame. Another new class this year is cookies, with the classes being chocolate chip cookie, sugar cookie (without frosting) and any other cookie. You may enter more than one class each.

The Primghar JC's will have their fifth race of the season Saturday evening, with the flag to drop at 7 p.m.

The horse show will be held beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 25.

On Monday, July 26, the O'Brien County Fair welcomes the Bill Riley Talent show to the Wayne Maass Memorial stage at 6 p.m. There will be two divisions, Sprout and Senior, with winners advancing to compete at the Iowa State Fair.

Also that evening at 8 p.m., the 2021 O'Brien County queen and king will be crowned.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy a pancake breakfast Tuesday, July 27, beginning at 7 a.m., prepared by the O'Brien County 4-H Foundation. A spelling contest is scheduled at 10 a.m. You may register starting at 9:30 a.m. in the Administration Building. At 5:30 p.m. the pedal tractor pull will begin.

Illusionist/comic Jared Sherlock will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. Sherlock comes from the Minneapolis, Minn. area, where he began his love of the art of magic at an early age and quickly became a professional. He has tremendous talent and his show will offer magic to entertain everyone.

Jason D'Vaude, known as the "Circus Man," will entertain near the food court at noon, 3 and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28. ATV races will be held at 6 p.m. and the JC's will have another figure-8 race at 7:30 p.m.

Fuller Digital, sponsored by the O'Brien County Farm Bureau, will provide live streaming of the livestock shows, beginning with the horse show on Sunday. Streaming on Monday begins with the sheep show at noon and the goat and dairy shows to follow. On Tuesday at 8 a.m. is the beef show, with the Clover Kids showing their bottle bucket calves at 4 p.m. The swine show is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
