Businesses and individuals interested in entering a float or vehicle in Hartley’s Summer Celebration parade must register by July 30. Contact Brittany Dolphin at (712) 363-1073 to register.
Vets, Legion Family invited to join parade
American Legion Family members and local veterans are invited to ride in the trailer or walk in the Summer Celebration parade on Saturday, July 31. Those wanting to participate should be at the Legion building’s west door by 10 a.m.
Veterans do not need to be American Legion members to join.
Everly UMC holding ice cream social
The Everly United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream social on Sunday, Aug. 1 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Hap Ketelesen Community Center. In addition to homemade ice cream, sloppy Joe’s and bars will be served.
Free will donations will be accepted. See the ad on Page 4 for more details.

Wristband presale special ends tomorrow
Hartley Summer Celebration wristband presales for kids’ activites are underway. Cost is $5 until July 30 and $10 after that. They are available at United Community Bank, Savings Bank, Treimer’s Insurance and Club 288.
Activities include a bounce house, inflatable axe throwing and laser tag. Make checks payable to Hartley Summer Celebration.
Sign up for Summer Celebration tourneys
Teams are needed for various tournaments during Summer Celebration. Friday’s lineup includes horseshoes and teen volleyball, while Saturday features sand volleyball and bags.
Contact Tami Klein to sign up for either volleyball tournament by emailing [email protected]. Register for the horseshoe and bag tournaments at Neebel Park.
Summer Celebration Cow Pie Bingo
Cow Pie Bingo will be held Friday, July 30 from 5-7 p.m., at Neebel Park in Hartley. Cost is $5/square.
Squares can be purchased at Animal Medical Center or at the event.
Blood drive Aug. 2 at Spencer
LifeServe Blood Center is conducting a blood drive at Southpark Mall, 901 11th Street SW in Spencer, on Monday, Aug. 2 from 12:30-6 p.m.

Family fun planned at Dog Creek Park next month
Join the campground host at Dog Creek Park for multiple opportunities to spend time together participating in family friendly activities.
All programs will be hosted at Dog Creek Park campground: Outdoor Games, Saturday, Aug. 7 at 1 p.m .; and Egg Hunt, Saturday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. Participants should meet at the campground host’s camper to get further instructions. Food pantry on Wednesdays at Hope Lutheran
Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.
H-M-S online school registration underway
Online registration for the 2021-22 school year at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Community School continues through Friday, July 30. The district website has all the information needed to register.
In-person registration will be held at H-M-S High School on Monday, Aug. 2, from noon to 7 p.m.
