• Flat tire leads to drug arrest

A Clay County deputy came upon a vehicle with a flat tire on the side of the road in the 3800 mile of M27 on July 19 at 10 a.m. While speaking with the driver, Melissa Stofferan, 41, of Primghar, the deputy determined she was under the influence of illegal substances. A search of the vehicle produced a small amount of drugs and paraphernalia.

Stofferan was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was held in the Clay County jail to appear before the magistrate.

• Arrested on weapons charge

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call on July 27 at 1:30 a.m. from Angela Chapman, 46, who reported she was worried about her safety. It was determined that Chapman was in Langdon near the elevator.

The report stated that when the deputy arrived, he determined that Chapman was never in danger. She was found to be in possession of a handgun as a felon.

Chapman was placed under arrest and transported to the Clay County jail. She was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, a class D felony. She was held in jail to appear before the magistrate.

• Traffic stop results in drug arrest

An O’Brien County deputy stopped a black 1997 Dodge truck that was registered as red in color. The incident occurred on July 22 at 9:30 p.m., at 435th Street and Taft Avenue, where a deputy witnessed the truck had failed to stop, allegedly traveling through the intersection at approximately 30 mph.

During the stop, drug paraphernalia was observed in plain view and methamphetamine was also found in the possession of Ocean Fisher, 34, of Gaza. He was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The driver, Martin Stallings, 48, of Gaza, was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign and released.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

• Sutherland juvenile arrested in Clay County

A Clay County deputy initiated a traffic stop for a violation in the 3900 mile of M27 on July 27 at 4:56 p.m.

The report stated that a juvenile female, age 17, of Sutherland, was found in possession of vaping products, alcohol, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The juvenile was taken into custody and cited into court for Speeding and Underage Tobacco Possession, both simple misdemeanors. She was also cited into juvenile court for Underage Alcohol Possession and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, both simple misdemeanors; and Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana, a serious misdemeanor.

The juvenile was released to the custody of her father.

• Faces drug charges

Shawn Rooney, 43, of Sheldon, was arrested on Wednesday, July 28 at 3 a.m., during a traffic stop south of Primghar.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that Rooney was charged with driving while suspended. During a subsequent pat search, Rooney was allegedly in possession of a glass methamphetamine pipe. He also is reported to have admitted to having drugs concealed on his person. Rooney turned over a baggie containing approximately three grams of a white crystalline substance which field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Rooney was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-3rd or Subsequent Offense, which is a class D felony. The report stated that Rooney has seven previous convictions for Possession of a Controlled Substance in Iowa. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 17.

• Injured in rollover accident

One person was injured in a rollover accident that occurred on July 24 at 4:15 p.m.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office stated that Kevin Glen Anderson, 63, of Sheldon, was driving south on Olive Avenue at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. He lost control of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt which lost traction, began to fishtail and entered the west ditch. The vehicle rolled three or four times and came to rest on its roof.

Anderson was taken by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center for treatment of suspected serious/incapacitating injuries. Damage to the Cobalt was estimated at $5,000.

The report stated that charges are pending.
