Next Hartley blood drive scheduled for Aug. 25
A blood drive is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 12:30-5:30 p.m. at the Hartley Community Center. New donors are especially needed.

Legion Family membership dinner Aug. 18
American Legion Post #288 (Legion, Auxiliary and SAL) will have its annual membership dinner on Wednesday, Aug. 18, at the Legion building. Social hour will be from 5-6 p.m. with dinner to follow.
Food distribution is Aug. 18 at Trinity UCC in Hartley
The Food Bank of Iowa’s mobile pantry program will be conducted on Wednesday, Aug. 18, from 4-6 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. The program is available free of charge and geared toward individuals in need of food assistance.
Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles and line up on the east side of the parking lot. The food will be brought to you as you drive under the canopy.
Bison burger picnic and lawn concert at PHC
Grab your lawn chair and head to the Prairie Heritage Center for the annual Bison Burger Picnic and Lawn Concert on Tuesday, Aug. 17. It will be an evening of good food, exploring the outdoors, listening to music and connecting with friends.
Bison burgers and other food items will be served from 5-7:30 p.m. After the meal enjoy music, go on a naturalist-led prairie hike and explore the brand new experience trail.
The picnic is hosted by O’Brien County Conservation Board and Little Sioux Valley Conservation Association. It will be held at the Prairie Heritage Center located one mile north of Highway 10 on Yellow Avenue.

Family fun planned at Dog Creek Park
The next program hosted at Dog Creek Park campground is an egg hunt, which will be held on Saturday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m.
Participants should meet at the campground host’s camper to get further instructions. This program is sure to be fun for the whole family.
Run, Walk & Roll planned at Village Northwest
Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon is gearing up for the 16th annual Run, Walk & Roll which is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25. Participants of all ages and abilities are invited to the VNU campus for a 5K, 10K or 1-mile walk/wheelchair roll.
There will be chip timing for all 10K and 5K participants, and awards will be given to top participants in each age group. All participants will receive a T-shirt. Following the race, there will be free snow cones, bananas, apples, granola bars, chocolate milk and water.
All funds raised are used to provide residential, therapeutic and vocational services for the 180 adults served by Village Northwest Unlimited.
HLC food pantry
Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.
Regular operations at Royal library
The Royal Public Library is operating normally. Hours remain the same: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Al Anon meetings
Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:
Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.
