• Accused of violating non-contact order
An Oelwein man was arrested following an incident which occurred in Hartley on July 24.
According to authorities, Joshua Moore, 42, allegedly showed up at the home of his ex-wife in Hartley. The victim received a video from a ring doorbell camera installed on the backdoor of the residence, showing a man identified as Moore standing at the door. The victim called the police, but the man had left before the officer arrived.
The doorbell was ripped from the house and could not be found. However, the victim and the officer were reported to have identified the man in the video as being Moore. He is alleged to have violated a No Contact Order stemming from a previous incident.
An arrest warrant was issued on July 29. Moore was taken into custody by the Oelwein Police Department on Aug. 4 and returned to O’Brien County. The sheriff’s office arrest log lists the following charges: Stalking-Protective Order Violation; Theft-5th Degree <$300; Contempt-Violation No Contact Order (2); and Contempt-Insolence Behavior.
• Charged with felony OWI
Brandon Lee Espeland, 35, of Sanborn, was arrested at 4:45 p.m. on July 29 at the west edge of Sanborn for allegedly driving under the influence.
The report stated that Espeland allegedly exhibited watery, bloodshot eyes and failed multiple field sobriety tests. He was transported to the O’Brien County jail.
Court records state that Espeland has previous OWI convictions in O’Brien and Osceola counties dating back to 2012 and 2018, respectively. As a result, the current charge against Espeland is a class D felony.
• OWI arrest follows accident
A Sanborn man was charged with OWI-1st offense following an accident that occurred on July 2 at 6:01 p.m.
According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Paul Arlen Siebrands, 73, drove his 1999 Saturn SL1 into the north ditch on 280th Street/B14, then continued for an extended distance and attempted to drive out of it. The vehicle went through a fence of a pasture and entered a dry creek bed.
Siebrands was transported to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by the Primghar Ambulance for treatment of suspected minor/non-incapacitating injuries. Damage to the Saturn was estimated at $2,500. The fence owned by Troy Simons, of Sanborn, sustained $50 in damage.
The report stated that Siebrands was processed for OWI-1st and refused to consent to a test. He was taken home to recover. An arrest warrant was later issued. The sheriff’s office arrest log lists Siebrands as being arrested on Aug. 1.
• Fog limits visibility at accident scene
Fog was a factor in an accident which occurred on July 31 at 7:32 a.m. The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that Nathaniel Jaye Van Wyk, 35, of Sanborn, was westbound on 310th Street and stopped at the intersection with Pierce Avenue. As he turned south onto Pierce Avenue, the trailer pulled by his pickup did not clear the intersection when a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Andrew Scott Price, 20, of Alta, collided with the rear of it.
According to the report, visibility was an issue due to fog, and the headlights of Price’s pickup were not on.
No injuries were reported. Damage estimates were $3,000 for the trailer and $2,000 for Price’s pickup.
