• Seriously injured in motorcycle accident

The operator of a motorcycle was serious injured in an accident that occurred on Sept. 10 at 4:53 p.m.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, William Dean Rice, 69, and Barb Lynn Rice, 63, of Paullina, were traveling on a 2002 Harley Davidson on Highway 10. The operator did not keep the motorcycle on the traveled portion of the road as it turned to the left. The motorcycle entered the south ditch, hit broadside on the embankment as it hit a barbed wire fence and landed on its left side. Rice told authorities the motorcycle did not seem to be operating correctly prior to impact.

William Rice was transported to the Cherokee Regional Medical Center by the Sutherland Ambulance with suspected serious/incapacitating injuries. Barb Rice complained of possible pain/injury but was not transported. Damage to the motorcycle was estimated at $5,000.
