Serving O'Brien & Clay Counties
The first trees of the Memory Tree Project sponsored by the Chapel Committee and the City of Hartley were planted this summer at Pleasant View Cemetery.
The 2021 selections were picked from an approved list. Up to five trees will be planted each year and cared for by city employees. The five trees planted this year were in memory of the following: Betty Taylor by the Chapel Committee, Betty Taylor by Orville Taylor and Steve and Judy Peters, Lloyd Newkirk by Ruth Newkirk and family, and Dale Nagel by Marlene Nagel and family. The fifth tree was gifted by past donations.
The two Memory Trees dedicated for Betty Taylor have a very special significance. Prior to her death in 2020, she organized the Save the Chapel Project and loved the historic building, playing an instrumental role in its restoration and obtaining many of its donated furnishings.
"Guided tours of the restored chapel were her great joy," said Chapel Committee member Kathy Luedke. "Betty's enthusiasm and support of chapel events were shared by many."
If you are interested in funding Memory Trees for 2022, contact Chapel Committee President LeRoy Raabe at (712) 260-356 or Hartley City Hall (712) 928-2240 to be placed on the list.
