Berends, Dodd, Ebel are first team selections
The 2021 football season may be over but players from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn are still receiving postseason accolades.
Four players from H-M-S have been named to all-state teams selected by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and the Iowa Football Coaches Association.
Named to the Class A all-state first team were senior Connor Dodd, running back; junior Lance Berends, offensive lineman; and junior Kooper Ebel, defensive back. Garnering all-state second team recognition was junior Travis Kamradt, linebacker.
“That is great, great recognition,” said Hawk coach Jay Eilers.
According to a release from the IPSWA, dozens of sports writers and coaches from across the state met either in-person at Dowling Catholic in West Des Moines or over Zoom to select this year’s teams.
Other players from Class A District 1 were also recognized. Named to the all-state first team was junior Keaton Bonderson, kick returner, Gehlen Catholic. Senior Preston McCoy, wide receiver/tight end, of Alta-Aurelia, is a second team selection. Akron-Westfield players named to the third team were junior Lane Kenny, wide receiver/tight end; and senior Cade Walkingstick, defensive utility player.
