Pioneers finish 4th at Clear Lake Invite

Okoboji/HMS finished fourth as a team at the Clear Lake Invitational on Jan. 8.

Three squad members from H-M-S competed. Nick Bronstad was runner-up at 285 pounds, winning by fall over Caleb Cooper of Forest City (1:47) and Gage Jorgenson of Emmetsburg (1:43) before being pinned in the title match by Chet Buss of North Butler-Clarksville (3:40).

At 182 pounds, James Gellerman won his first-round match by fall over Ki Janssen of West Fork (0:53) but was defeated in the semifinals by Logan Ott of North Butler-Clarksville (5-2). In consolation action, Gellerman pinned Sammel Reitz of Algona (3:43) and lost the third-place match to Kaleb Hambly of Clear Lake (5:06).

Ethan Wiersma finished sixth at 195 pounds, losing his first-round match by fall to Christian Anderson of Forest City (3:56) and to Chase Roof of Algona (1:28). He was pinned again by Anderson in the fifth-place match (5:08).

Overall, Okoboji/HMS had 11 wrestlers place in the Top 6. Dylan Jones was runner-up at 120 pounds. Third-place finishers were Tyce Hanson at 113, Noah Strantz at 152, Jesse Bockman at 170 and Sam Pas at 220. Finishing fourth were Caleb Jones at 132 pounds and Nathaniel Franklyn at 160. Another sixth-place finisher was Alex Rouse at 126.

Emmetsburg won the team title with 220 points, Algona was second with 208 and North Butler-Clarksville was third with 166. The Pioneers were fourth with 142 points, followed by Charles City 132.5, Forest City 122.5, Clear Lake 75 and West Fork 41.5.
