• Accident claims Paullina man’s life
A Paullina man died as a result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident on Jan. 19 at 6:40 p.m.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that Storm Dalton Perry, 30, was northbound in the 4500 mile of Silver Avenue/Highway 59 when he lost control of his 2017 Dodge Journey. The vehicle entered the east ditch, struck the embankment of 450th Street and went airborne. It landed and rolled before coming to rest on its top in the yard at 4490 Silver Avenue.
The report stated that Perry died at the scene. His body was transported to Sioux Falls, S.D. in order to have an autopsy performed.
Damage to the Journey was estimated at $19,990.
• Arrested on warrant
Nathaniel Wolthuis, 41, of Everly, was taken into the custody by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 15 at 3:08 p.m., on an active warrant for a 30-day mittimus for Contempt of Court. No bond was set. Wolthuis was held in the Clay County jail.
• Swerves to miss raccoon
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that Seth Michael Withrow, 26, of Cherokee, was northbound in the 4800 mile of Redwing Avenue, on Jan. 20 at 7:25 p.m. He swerved to miss a raccoon and lost control of the 2011 Subaru Forester, which entered the west ditch and struck the embankment of the driveway at 4819 Redwing Avenue.
Withrow was transported by private vehicle to Cherokee Regional Medical Center with suspected minor/non-incapacitating injuries. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $8,357, and damage to a 911 address sign owned by the O’Brien County Engineer’s Office was $100.
