1 champion, 5 place finishers for Okoboji/HMS
Five individuals from the Okoboji/HMS wrestling team placed during OABCIG’s Herb Irgens Invitational last weekend at Ida Grove.
The only H-M-S wrestler to place was Nick Bronstad, who finished third at 285 pounds. Bronstad pinned Colton Wieland of Carroll (1:53) and defeated Mack Ortner of Don Bosco (1-0) before losing by fall to Gage Marty of Solon (4:50) in the semifinals. In the consolation semifinals, Bronstad won by fall over Cael Moffatt of Akron-Westfield (3:03) and lost the third-place match to Ethan Hooyer of Sioux Center (5-0).
Bryce Dodge wrestled at 170 pounds. He lost by fall to Zach Hemer of OABCIG (1:29) and to Sterling Rodman of Carroll (2:51). At 182 pounds, James Gellerman won by fall over Adin Verschoor of Kingsley-Pierson (1:22), lost by fall to Gabriel Bailey of Tonganoxie, Kan. (3:03) and to Emmit Fleshman of West Lyon (0:52). At 195, Ethan Wiersma lost by fall to Ian Blowe of Akron-Westfield (1:54) and by technical fall to Reece Clausen of Sergeant Bluff-Luton (15-0/4:00).
Okoboji/HMS’s lone champion was Tyce Hanson at 113 pounds, defeating Evan Boothroyd of West Hancock (9-5) in the title match. Noah Strantz placed second at 152 pounds, losing by fall to Zander Ernst of Sergeant Bluff-Luton (3:06).
Dylan Jones placed fifth at 120 pounds and Nathaniel Franklyn won the seventh-place match at 160.
Overall, the Pioneers placed ninth out of 25 teams. Don Bosco, of Gilbertville, won the team title with 245.5 points and Sergeant Bluff-Luton was runner-up with 208.5. The remaining team scores were Tonganoxie, Kan. 160, Carroll 137.5, West Hancock 136, West Lyon 134.5, Solon 108, Akron-Westfield 96.5, Okoboji/HMS 94, South Central Calhoun 93.5, Sioux Center 79, Southeast Valley 78.5, Kingsley-Pierson 51, Pocahontas Area 50, OABCIG 46.5, Woodbury Central 39.5, Audubon 31, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire 30.5, Lawton-Bronson 27, Sibley-Ocheyedan 26.5, Western Christian 19.5, Ridge View 19, Cherokee 12, East Sac County 11 and Woodbine 9.
