Registration encouraged before Feb. 7
Local Democrats discuss presidential candidates during the 2020 caucus. Turnout during midterm years is typically low for both parties.
Residents in O'Brien and Clay counties are encouraged to attend the 2022 Republican Party and Democratic Party caucuses next Monday, Feb. 7.
Caucusgoers will elect delegates to their county convention, choose platform priorities and pick county party leaders. It is encouraged that you are registered to vote and a member of the party you are caucusing for before Feb. 7. If not, bring your ID and proof of residency the night of the caucus and come early.
All caucus events, regardless of party, kick off at 7 p.m. All registered voters of their respective parties are encouraged to attend. Locations are listed below.
• Democrats
Clay County: Spencer Schools Administrative Building, 23 E 7th St., Spencer.
O'Brien County: All Democrats residing within a Sheldon precinct will report to the Sheldon City Building, 416 9th St., Sheldon; all Democrats residing outside of a Sheldon precinct will report to the O'Brien County Courthouse Assembly Room, 155 S Hayes Ave., Primghar.
Osceola County: Sibley Senior Center, 612 8th St., Sibley.
Per state party requirements, masks are required on caucus night and vaccinations encouraged.
• Republicans
Clay County: Spencer Area Activity Center, 104 E. 4th St., Spencer.
O'Brien County: Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Middle School, 509 Main St., Sanborn.
Osceola County: Osceola County Courthouse, 300 7th St., Sibley.
