Flag exhibit at Clay County Heritage

Clay County Heritage recently announced its next temporary exhibition, "Symbol of Freedom: The American Flag," set to open Tuesday, April 5 at the Clay County Heritage Center in Spencer.

This exhibit was organized by and on loan from the Siouxland Heritage Museums in Sioux Falls, S.D. Funding to create this exhibit was provided by the Mary Chilton Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution through the Mary Chilton DAR Foundation in Sioux Falls.

The American flag is a fixture of everyday life. As a national symbol, it can be seen at numerous locations throughout the country. But it's more than just a piece of material. It represents America's principles, freedoms, and opportunities along with honoring our heritage, diversity, and unity of a country. How did the flag get to be what it is today?

This exhibit includes numerous topics such as the anatomy of the flag, famous flags, evolution of the flag and other fascinating subjects. In addition to the displays from the Siouxland Heritage Museums, Clay County Heritage will be displaying its collection of American flags including a 15-foot-long flag that will be suspended from the ceiling.

Admission to the Clay County Heritage Center is always free thanks a sponsorship from Spencer Hy-Vee. The Parker Museum is open for touring by appointment only starting April 1.
