Serving O'Brien & Clay Counties
Clay Central/Everly Elementary hosted Maverick Family Fun Night last Thursday evening to a packed lunchroom full of eager families and children. Fifth and sixth grade students, along with staff volunteers, hosted the evening of fun.
Kicking off the night was a meal of delicious grilled burgers prepared by the Clay County Cattlemen. During the meal, a brief speech was made by CC/E TAG/Reading instructor Mrs. Roti, who welcomed all to the event and thanked the students and staff volunteers for their efforts.
An announcement was made about the Maverick Penny Drive, initiated by concerned students who were worried about the children and people of Ukraine. All Maverick Penny Drive proceeds will go towards Ukraine support efforts. In a display of sincere care, second grade student Willow Hollenbeck came forward and handed out Ukrainian flags she crafted for all in attendance.
Following the welcome speech, students and families were advised about where to find games and activities that night. The lunchroom hosted BINGO with prizes and plenty of laughs, while the Maverick Room had games like chess, checkers and Battleship. The music room hosted board and card games like Go Fish, UNO and Jenga, and the gymnasium was filled with building and puzzle games galore.
Door prizes were announced throughout the evening. To finish off the event, families and staff helped to clean up the play areas before heading home.
Future Maverick Family Fun Night dates are set for April 14 and May 12.
