Paul Pate is the Iowa Secretary of State. The newspaper regrets the error.

Spring seasons off to slow start

Getting the outdoor sports seasons started has been a struggle for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's golf and track teams.

The track meet to be hosted by South O'Brien on March 29 was cancelled while the golfers' season opener with Gehlen Catholic at LeMars on April 4 is postponed.

H-M-S's track teams are scheduled to compete in the Sioux City Relays on April 9, in a meet hosted by Unity Christian at Orange City on April 11 and at Spirit Lake on April 12.

Weather and course conditions allowing, the Hawk golfers will play at Hinton on April 7 and at Remsen St. Mary's on April 11, and host South O'Brien at Sanborn on April 12.

The spring sports tab featuring H-M-S and Sibley-Ocheyedan golf and track teams will be included with next week's issue of the Sentinel-News.

Boat registrations expire April 30

Iowans will be registering more than 231,000 boats before April 30, when current boat registrations expire. Boat registrations are good for three years and registration fees go to support water trails, navigation enforcement, aquatic invasive species, and boater education and safety.

Boat registrations are handled by Iowa's county recorders and boat owners may bring their current registration to any recorder's office when they renew. Nonresidents who register their boat in Iowa will go to the county where the boat is primarily used.
