• Arrested on multiple child sex abuse charges
Nicholas Paul William Stallman, 35, of Hartley, was arrested on March 27 and charged with several child sex abuse-related offenses that date back to 2020.
Records indicate the incidents involve alleged sexual contact by Stallman with a 5-year-old child. He has been charged with Sexual Abuse-2nd degree, a class B felony; Child Endangerment with Bodily Injury, a class D felony; two counts of Child Endangerment and three counts of Indecent Contact with a Child, which are aggravated misdemeanors.
The preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 6.
• Respond to waterway fire
Hartley firemen extinguished a fire in a waterway on Sunday, March 27, near Highway 18 and Taft Avenue, approximately four miles west of Hartley. The fire was reported at 9:20 p.m.
Three to four acres were burned. No cause has been determined. Firemen were on the scene for approximately one hour.
